ABOUT THE CU/NYU COLLEGE LIFE STUDY
The CU/NYU College Life Study is being conducted by Professor Patrick Shrout, of the Department of Psychology at New York University, and by Professor Niall Bolger, of the Department of Psychology at Columbia University.

The College Life Study is designed to find out about communication of life events, experiences, stress, coping, health and drinking behaviors and thus the study design requires that a student and a current roommate or suitemate enroll together. Participants in this study will be asked to complete an online background informational survey (about their age, gender and health background) and then later to complete between two and four online questionnaires over the academic year. These questionnaires will ask participants to report about their own health experiences and behaviors and those of their roommate. The roommate will be asked to do the same. Over the course of the year, it is very important that roommates do not talk to one another about their answers on these questionnaires.  A description of the results will be sent at the conclusion of the College Life Study in late April, and only then should roommates discuss their thoughts and feelings with each other.

Participation in the College Life Study should take no longer than 3 hours total, 40 minutes per questionnaire. Depending on how many assessments each participant is asked to complete, they will receive up to $70 ($10 per questionnaire and an additional $10 for cortisol collection if applicable.) Participants will also have multiple chances to win bonus awards worth $250 each of our Lotteries.

Participation in the College Life Study is a service to social science, a chance to be part of a Columbia and NYU study, and a way to receive a bit of money as well!

A few criteria must meet before participating in the College Life Study:
1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
2. Must enroll for the study with a current roommate or suitemate that you will be living for a full year with (e.g. neither of you will be studying abroad or moving).
3. Must be enrolled in undergraduate courses at Columbia University.
