Research Interests
My research interests lie in the area of social regulation of cognitive functioning. Specifically, I am researching the process of stereotype internalization and the effect of stereotype threat on women's math performance. My studies focus on how women's performance is influenced by two sets of factors. The first are individual differences in the degree women internalize their presumed math incompetence which include stereotype endorsement and self-concept of capacity in math. The second are situational conditions, which include stereotype threat and contextually induced stereotype endorsement. I am also interested in the processes that mediate the effect of stereotypes on cognitive functioning, such as temporary working memory interference, which may be experienced by women while taking math tests.
Current Projects
I am currently a visiting scholar in the Jost lab, and I will be looking at how system justification beliefs may account for the effect of stereotypes on men’s and women’s math performance.
