Research Interests
I am interested in motivated political reasoning. Specifically, I explore the process through which the motivation to justify the extant social system influences how we perceive and respond to information. My current focus is the association between system justification and motivation and the evaluation, recall, and somatosensory perception of climate change information.
In addition, my research explores the possibility that stare decisis is a system justifying mechanism within our legal system. I am interested in the ways in which judges, juries, plaintiffs, and defendants all engage in system justifying behavior both by their direct actions (for instance, disadvantaged groups' reluctance to file discrimination claims), and by their general prediclection to adhere to persuasive precedent even when prior decisions were clearly erroneous.
