Graduate Student HousingWelcome to New York!Where would you like to live? New York University guarantees housing for incoming graduate students (provided you apply for it on time). The graduate student dorms are located in midtown and the Wall Street area, and NYU-run shuttle buses provide free transport from the dorms to various parts of the campus. Student housing choices include shared 1-bedroom apartments, shared studio apartments, and shared suites. For detailed information visit: University housing, or call (212) 998-4600. Perhaps you prefer off-campus housing, but you've heard it's difficult to find an apartment in New York City. With so many people living in Manhattan, competition is stiff, but bear in mind, people find apartments every day. New York City offers a multitude of apartment styles, sizes, neighborhoods, from highrises, to brownstones, to quaint walk-ups. Click for NYU's guide to apartment hunting in Manhattan. If you are looking to share an apartment with a roommate, the Off Campus Housing Office has a Roommate Pairing Book available for browsing. Visit the office at Building 4 of Washington Square Village (on the corner of Mercer and Bleecker Streets), or call (212) 998-4620. Today, most students find housing through the craigslist web site. The Village Voice, a free weekly Manhattan newspaper, has a listing of roommates wanted in its Classified section. You can also finding housing through: The New York Times, Metro List Xpress, Apartment Fone, and The Corcoran Group. (Suggested by Time Out New York, April 29, 1999.) To help students looking for housing, the Psychology Department hosts group email for current and newly accepted graduate students to find roommates and exchange information about housing. Updated |
