Finally, we are holding another bake sale April 8th to April 11th from 9 AM - 3 PM. We still need volunteers to bake and also to work the table. Hey guys! On Tuesday's meeting, we held "elections." All those running for a board position gave brief speeches. Luckily, everyone ran unopposed. No ballots were necessary. Here are your officers for next year: We spoke briefly about induction, which will be held on Friday, April 26th in the Commuter Commons. The food served will be Chinese. We are also discussing a potluck dessert, where everyone who can brings in something. Invitations for induction will be sent out shortly. Those who are graduating and want something to represent Psi Chi during the ceremony need to give us their order and money this week. Once again, info on merchandise can be found at the Psi Chi website http://www.psych.nyu.edu/psichi/grad.htm Psi Chi is holding another bake sale on April 8th to April 12th from 9-3. If you are interested in baking or in working the table, please let us know what you can bring or when you can work. We are looking into two speakers for the next few meetings. One is someone from Occupational Therapy and another is an MD who will do a Q & A session. More details on the dates will follow. See everyone at the next meeting.! Congratulations to our new board members! Krista |

Hi Everybody, Today was a meeting for just the new members. We took care of the logistic stuff, like registration and dues. Also we talked about induction and where plans stand right now. Currently, we have narrowed the date down to either Friday April 19 or 26. People have voiced a preference for the 26th if someone has a reason to prefer the 19th please let us know as soon as possible. Also, for the speaker we are trying to confirm a clinician from the meditation clinic. We will be having Chinese food and that will include some vegetarian dishes. Once again, it will be held in the basement of commuter commons (16 Waverly pl.). If anyone has questions or suggestions about induction please let us know as soon as possible before all the plans have been finalized. We have also been able to form a committee of community service. They will survey the members for the kind of community service they want to do and try to gather information for us. It would help if everyone could either email or drop in the box on the bulletin board a sentence about what they would be interested in. We also are planning on holding a bake sale the week of April 8th. Please start to think about what you can bake/buy and what times you can commit to this fund raiser. We also discussed holding Mock GREs in the coming months. If you have any suggestions for dates that are good for you, or if you would like to help organize or take the GRE, please contact Cynthia at ca406@nyu.edu or Psi Chi at psichinyu@hotmail.com At the next meeting we will be holding elections. Anyone who is interested in running for the board needs to send us blurbs about why they want to run for this position by 3/18. For more detailed instructions check the webpage for elections at http://www.psych.nyu.edu/psichi/board.htm For those of you that are graduating this semester, you are eligible to wear honor cords at the graduation ceremonies. To order these items, please visit the webpage for grad apparel at http://www.psych.nyu.edu/psichi/grad.htm - Orders are due by April 5, 2002 and can be submitted at the meetings or at specific times set up by email. The next meeting will be on Tuesday after Spring Break and it will be for all members. It will be held in 159 Meyer at 6PM on March 19th. Have a good Spring Break, Julie |

Hey guys, We talked more about induction at the last meeting. We have been in communication with Albert Ellis as a possible speaker, but it seems he is all booked up. We have some other possible speakers though, and we are still trying to work out a date. It looks as though induction will be held at the Commuter Commons. Also, Chinese is the direction we are leaning in as far as food. Start thinking about if you are interested in running for a position on the board for next year's Psi Chi. You can find details on all the positions at http://www.psych.nyu.edu/psichi/board.htm. We will be having speeches for people running for the board positions on Tuesday March 19 at 6PM in Meyer 159. People can vote at the meeting and we will also send out blurbs by email for people to vote by email as well. Winners will be notified before the next meeting on March 26. If anyone wants to run for positions, tell us which position you want to run for and submit blurbs (about yourself and why you want the position) by email before Monday March 18. Seniors interested in representing Psi Chi at graduation http://www.psych.nyu.edu/psichi/grad.htm . The deadline for ordering is April 5th. Checks are payable to NYU; cash is also accepted. The deadline for ordering is Friday April 5. Our next meeting on March 5th will be for new members only. It is in room Meyer 159 at 6:00PM . The next meeting for all members will be on March 19th. Good luck with midterms!! Krista |

Hi everyone, This s a late overview of what happened this week at the meeting. We talked about induction and where to have it. We have been offered the basement of the commuter commons (16 Waverly Place), which we agreed that with a little decoration can be nice. But, now that we are trying to get Albert Ellis to come as a speaker we have to adjust a little to his schedule, which might involve getting a different room. We are also in search of a caterer, so anyone who knows a good caterer who is inexpensive please let us know as soon as possible. Also, we need to vote on the kind of food we want. PLEASE E-MAIL US and tell us your top three choices of food type and any restrictions you may have (e. g. vegan, kosher…). We also went through the old text books we have in the office and took out pictures of famous psychologists and discussed what they did. We want to assemble these pictures and some other ones into a collage. We will try to do that at the next meeting. So all you art-minded people, please come help! We also identified several things that we need for the induction. We need someone to volunteer to take pictures at induction. That person can either bring their own camera or we can provide one. We will buy film. If you want this job please E-MAIL US and let us know. Another thing we need done IMMEDIATELY is the clothes that have been collected at Broome Street have not yet been picked up. If someone lives there or just wants to deal with it, let us know and we will give you info on who to contact. Mainly, it involves either picking up the clothes and bringing them to the office or having Salvation Army pick them up from there. In the next week we will be redesigning our bulletin board. The new one will include pictures and maybe some of the thins we find in the textbooks, but if you have any ideas of what else to put there let us know. We will be discussing elections for next year's board at the next meeting on Tuesday, February 26 at 6PM in the psi chi office. Have a good week, Julie |
| We held our meeting in our wonderful newly remodeled office. We discussed decoration ideas and supplies that are still needed We held further discussion on induction at our last meeting. We are currently trying to work out a final date with different possible locations on- and off -campus. We are still hoping to have Albert Ellis as a speaker at our induction. If you are interested in volunteering for the induction committee, let us know!! If anyone is interested in free practice tests for the GREs, Kaplan is holding some sessions in our area at the following times: Thursday, February 21st at Kaplan in Long Island. 6PM Sunday February 24th at Kaplan in Queens. 11AM Wednesday February 27th at SUNY Stony Brook. 7 PM Call 1-800-KAP-TEST or go to kaptest.com/testdrive to register. We spent much of the meeting discussing graduate schools, research options, and possible community service activities. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday at 6 PM. Hope to see you all there!!! | Hey Guys! At our last meeting, we discussed the CAS Undergraduate Research Conference, which will be held on April 26th. Applications are being accepted up until March 22nd and can be picked up in Main 909A. They can also be download at http://www.nyu.edu/cas/urc. A single-spaced proposal is needed, between 150-250 words, which addresses the problem under investigation, methods used, anticipated/achieved results, and conclusions. Name, faculty sponsor, and title of project are also required. Your sponsor should review and approve proposal before submission. A faculty committee will make the selections and presentations for the Conference are either a poster or brief talk. There is also the Dean's Undergradute Research Fund, which provides grants to assist a student's own research, whether to help with the gathering of data and information, or in the presentation of the results at an academic conference. For More information, go here: http://www.nyu.edu/cas/Academic/4thUGResearch.html. We discussed induction further and popular opinion is for it to be held in a restaurant. (That is, if the Violet Cafe booking lady doesn't allow us to have a reservation). If we do get a room not in a restaurant though, we still need to find a caterer. Any ideas? Possible speakers were also mentioned, such as Albert Ellis (you know, the REBT -- Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy Theory). Once again, if you have any suggestions, let us know!!!! Also, a speaker may be scheduled for an upcoming meeting. He is a former NYU Psi Chi president, who is now an MD. He is willing to talk about his career and answer questions about things such as medical school. Graduating seniors, look for an upcoming e-mail regarding Psi Chi merchandise available to be worn during graduation. If you know of anyone interested in joining Psi Chi, tell them to pick up an application on the bulletin board in Meyer! They are due THIS THURSDAY FEB 14th! Finally, by popular opinion, our new meeting time is Tuesdays at 6PM. Check the Psi Chi Bulletin Board for meeting location. Hope to see you at the meeting on the 12th!! Krista |
| One of our major topics was Induction. We took suggestion for places and speakers. So far, popular opinion would like to hold it at the Violet Cafe this year. If you have any requests for possible speakers, e-mail us back and let us know!! The induction will take place around the end of March or the beginning of April. Further details concerning the date and all the specifics will be coming soon. Research opportunities were discussed, such as the Undergraduate Research Fund. Applications are currently available, so hurry to the 9th floor Dean's Office to pick one up. You need to have an abstract, a list of expense and an advisor to get the money!! Also, there are opportunities for NSF-sponsored Undergraduate Research programs. Check out the LINKSsection for more information. We will soon be accepting applications to Psi Chi for the spring semester. If you know of anyone who is interested, tell them to pick up an application starting Monday on the Psi Chi bulletin board in Meyer. Also, if you are enrolled in a psych class with students you think might be interested in joining, we would love for you to announce that applications are available from the bulletin board and can also be downloaded online. The applications will be due back on Feb 14th. Due to the success of last semester's mock GRE, we will be holding another one in late March. Once the date is set, we will let everyone know and distribute flyers. Also, for the graduating seniors, start thinking about if you want to wear something to represent Psi Chi at graduation. Sashes, tassels, and pins are all available. We will be letting you know exactly what you can buy and how much they cost in the coming weeks. We will be holding our next meeting on Thursday Feb 7 at 6PM. We do realize not everyone is able to attend, so we are conducting a poll for the most popular meeting times for spring. The choices are as follows: Thursday at 6 PM, Tuesday at 6 PM, Thursday at 5, Monday at 6PM, and Thursday at 7. These were the most requested times in our previous poll. Let us know which time is best for you through e-mail!!! We will accept votes until Wednesday 2/6 at 5:00 PM. |
